Polaroid ’09

That’s a new one. I cross that corner almost daily, so this must have been pasted up over the weekend.

I like polaroid, but I also think it’s a bit overrated. When aesthetics define an entire genre and nothing is left to imagination or innovation I tend to get wary. You know how it goes. Point a camera on stacked chairs, add polaroid-filter, hey presto: Instant “arty” photo that conveys “a sad emptiness”.

This is polaroid ’09 though. Great stuff!

edit: Let me clarify this. My “problem” with the polaroid aesthetic is the LOOK. That it’s an often easily replicated look that cynics recreate so easily. It’s actually the same with that Terry Richardson guy – his photos are this thing, a Vice-thing, an aesthetic, a look. And yes, even though I too work with Vice it doesn’t mean I have to lick every sweaty ball that dangles out of it.

I didn’t attack people that pay their hard-earned money for film and photo-development, that take photos out of the pure enjoyment of it.
